The ‘Life’ in Life Coaching

What does it mean?

Personal confidence, limiting beliefs, perceptual distortion, tripping ourselves up, feeling stuck – can impact on many areas of our life:

  • Workplace/business/career
  • Sport
  • Studies
  • Health and well being
  • Money management style
  • Relationships
  • Family
  • Creativity
  • Communication style
  • Physical environment
  • Dreams and purpose

Coaching creates the foundation for long term change in all areas of our life.

When you focus on one area of your life to create change, there is a ripple effect to all other areas of your life.

Remember – ‘what you focus on expands’

Finding the Right Coach

Vicki Willing – 2017

Here are a few tips on finding a coach that suits your individual needs.

  • Do your research – there are a lot of coaches out there
  • Visit the ICF website – International Coaching Federation
  • Ensure that the coach has had extensive coach specific training
  • Make sure the coach is an ICF member, therefore signed up to a strict code of conduct
  • Make sure that their coach specific training is ICF accredited
  • Seek out experienced coaches, although you may get great results and pay less with someone just starting out
  • Speak to existing clients
  • Try to find a ´goodness of match´ – someone you click with, as coaching is a unique partnership
  • Don´t choose an advice giver – this is not coaching
  • Go into coaching genuinely motivated to move forward, or it will be a waste of time
  • If you would like to work with me I generally prefer to have a phone conversation first to establish if what I am offering is the best possible service for your needs at this time

Design Your 2017

Vicki Willing – 2017

Greetings

Feb 2017 biting at your heels; disappointment creeping in as time slips away? I once heard a travel agent ask an assembled group; “How many summers and how many winters do you have left?” Ugh – that was a bit below the belt, however it did make me think. What do you want for yourself in 2017 – how do you want this year to look?

Set some time aside and enjoy designing your life.

Firstly:

  • In one sentence sum up your life in 2016
  • List 3 things you achieved, accomplished or were simply pleased about in 2016
  • List 3 great choices you made in 2016
  • State 3 key things you learnt about yourself in 2016

Secondly:

  • In one brief sentence describe your current situation in life
  • … your personal life
  • … your work life
  • Briefly describe how you want to ‘be’ in 2016; coaches often use the expression, ‘your way of being’ – for example: confident, calm, adventurous, time for me, creative and so on
  • Ask yourself: ‘do I want my life to be different in any way in 2017’?

Thirdly:

Create a goal for each of these areas of your life: health & body : relationships : fun : creativity : interests : my spending plan : work-life : home

Circle the area that seems to emerge as the most important area requiring your focus and attention. You will instinctively know – notice if you are avoiding a particular area.

  • Look out into 2017; now and imagine how you want this area of your life to be
  • Ask yourself what you will need to do to have this/these change/s to occur; what choices will I need to make; what support will I need and so on
  • Notice if you are already creating obstructions in your thinking or standing in fear – how does this serve you?
  • Remember: it’s often the seemingly simplest thing that can make ALL the difference in our life
  • Use the same process for all the other areas of your life : be specific; set time frames and most of all, make sure the goal lights you up, makes you go a bit funny in the tummy – ‘cos it would be great to go for what would really make a difference in life

Maya Angelou said: “I’ve learned that making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as ‘making a life’.

So, get cracking and make your life – cheers, Vicki
