Design Your 2017

Vicki Willing – 2017

Greetings

Feb 2017 biting at your heels; disappointment creeping in as time slips away? I once heard a travel agent ask an assembled group; “How many summers and how many winters do you have left?” Ugh – that was a bit below the belt, however it did make me think. What do you want for yourself in 2017 – how do you want this year to look?

Set some time aside and enjoy designing your life.

Firstly:

  • In one sentence sum up your life in 2016
  • List 3 things you achieved, accomplished or were simply pleased about in 2016
  • List 3 great choices you made in 2016
  • State 3 key things you learnt about yourself in 2016

Secondly:

  • In one brief sentence describe your current situation in life
  • … your personal life
  • … your work life
  • Briefly describe how you want to ‘be’ in 2016; coaches often use the expression, ‘your way of being’ – for example: confident, calm, adventurous, time for me, creative and so on
  • Ask yourself: ‘do I want my life to be different in any way in 2017’?

Thirdly:

Create a goal for each of these areas of your life: health & body : relationships : fun : creativity : interests : my spending plan : work-life : home

Circle the area that seems to emerge as the most important area requiring your focus and attention. You will instinctively know – notice if you are avoiding a particular area.

  • Look out into 2017; now and imagine how you want this area of your life to be
  • Ask yourself what you will need to do to have this/these change/s to occur; what choices will I need to make; what support will I need and so on
  • Notice if you are already creating obstructions in your thinking or standing in fear – how does this serve you?
  • Remember: it’s often the seemingly simplest thing that can make ALL the difference in our life
  • Use the same process for all the other areas of your life : be specific; set time frames and most of all, make sure the goal lights you up, makes you go a bit funny in the tummy – ‘cos it would be great to go for what would really make a difference in life

Maya Angelou said: “I’ve learned that making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as ‘making a life’.

So, get cracking and make your life – cheers, Vicki
